Refurbishment and expansion of the retail area

The current station building, which was built on the site of the predecessor building, was inaugurated in 1980 in preparation for opening of the S2 and S3 S-Bahn lines in 1981. Together with the station buildings in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen (opened in 1982) and Ludwigsburg (opened in 1992), the station building in Waiblingen is one of the few built to replace buildings following the post-war reconstruction in Württemberg. The last major modernisation work was completed in early 2008, when the old kiosk and restaurant from 1980 were replaced with a new kiosk and bakery.
