ARSENAL shopping centre in Wittenberg – a new building in the old town
Towards Markt/Jüdenstraße, the proportions of the new shopping centre have been oriented to the façades and roofs of the neighbouring buildings. Natural stone and light-coloured plastering characterise the centre’s façades. Clay tiles have been used for the roof, while the entrance area is a nod to the vast gates that once dominated the old town. The interplay between the new centre and old town thus also works visually. The inhabitants of Wittenberg were involved in the planning through a citizens’ forum.
